This year’s expo was kicked off in style, with a lively evening of entertainment, showcasing and networking marking the launch of Creative Links 2007. VIP guests representing key organisations across the creative and cultural sector were given a sneak preview of exhibition stands and multi-media installations. With a tradition of showcasing upcoming local creative talent. Ambassadors of Dhol greeted guests at the door with their unmissable rhythms and CDR DJ Tony Nwachukwu provided the evening’s soundtrack. Guests were also treated to the spectacle of the Whoopee Beaux Belles performing their unique take on the East End tradition of pearly queens.
ExhibitorsOver 50 different organisations and agencies exhibited at Creative Links 2007, from across the arts, creative and cultural industries sector. Exhibitors were on hand throughout the event to share information, invaluable advice and networking opportunities to those that attended. Exhibitors in attendance represented a wide range of sectors including cultural events/festivals, digital/ new media, graphic design, photography, public art, publishing, PR, financial advice, business support and many more.
One-to-onesA selection of exhibitors also provided one-to-one advice sessions, which proved very popular and were quick to become booked up. Attendees took full advantage of the opportunity to receive confidential, tailored guidance and discuss their individual circumstances with an industry professional.
Workshops, seminars and panel discussionsThe Creative Links programme featured dedicated space for discussion, debate and learning. From more theoretical panel discussions exploring the role of creative businesses in 2012 legacy to practical ‘top tips’ workshops advising on issues such as fundraising and intellectual property, these one off events provided attendees with valuable opportunities to gain advice on key issues and engage in debate with key industry movers and shakers.
Film CaféAn exciting new addition to the Creative Links mix for 2007 was the Film Café. With comfy seating and ongoing exclusive screenings of short films and documentaries, the Film Café provided an ambient space where attendees could enjoy a coffee, grab a bite to eat and connect with other creative people.
Films were screened throughout the event, showcasing pioneering and award winning shorts from emerging and established local filmmakers. The programme featured a dynamic mix of short films and documentaries from the New Producers Alliance, Abi, Hi8us, Current TV, ITV Local, Four Corners and London Metropolitan University.
There was a lot of interest generated, with many requests for more film and media based events and workshops, so look out for future developments in this area!
East London Design ShowFor Creative Links 2007, ELDS provided a specially commissioned installation, showcasing local design talent. The 15 featured designers were involved in the curation of the space at every stage, from conception to completion, to create a visually stimulating feature within the expo.
